About the U.S. Navy method
This widely used method estimates body fat from simple tape measurements of the neck, waist (and hips for women) plus height. It is a quick estimate — not as precise as a DEXA scan, but useful for tracking changes over time.
General body fat ranges
- Men: 2–5% essential, 6–13% athletic, 14–24% fitness/average, 25%+ high
- Women: 10–13% essential, 14–20% athletic, 21–31% fitness/average, 32%+ high
